This past Saturday, February 28, six qualifiers from the girls bowling team headed to Babylon Bowling Lanes for the New York State Catholic High School Bowling Individual Championships, and ended it off with some incredible results.
The Bowling superstars this season were Kerri Callahan and Avery Ling. Avery earned the MVP award at the league championship with the highest average of 200 and beat that score at the state championships, placing 2nd. Kerri earned her fourth consecutive High Series Win at the League Championships just a few weeks back— but her work was not done there.
What better way to end February than with a near perfect bowling score? At the State Champs, Kerri scored a whopping 299. That is 11consecutive strikes, and she ended up placing 2nd overall— that’s two Firebirds on the state podium! The rest of the qualifiers did exceptionally well, with 4 out of 5 of the others placing 15th or higher.
Six boys and one girl qualified for the individual state championship. Kellenberg’s state qualifiers for this year were Anna Guerra, Jenna Paladino, Chelsea Jeancharles, Allie Pilock, Chloe Horstmann, Kerri Callahan, and Avery Ling.
“It was a great experience getting to see the girls do what they love at the highest competition level,” head coach Miss Frisina said. “The individual games made it a little more mentally challenging, but it was great to see them push through.” Bowling may be considered a niche sport to many High School students, but it holds significant cultural and social value within its community.

The Bowling teams at KMHS have done amazing at matches and State Championships in recent years. With the new eight lane bowling alley in the new Firebird Center for Athletics and Arts, the bowling team can practice here everyday to help expand their talent in future seasons.
