“Congratulations!” “Good job!” These phrases echoed around the building all day on October 21st—The National Honor Society’s Annual Awards Ceremony.
Current members, as well as elected officers and coordinators of the society, were recognized. New members were inducted and students were celebrated for outstanding academic achievement.

This year, the NHS inducted over 260 Juniors and more than 80 seniors—a number that
continues to grow year after year.
The Moderator of the NHS Mr. Kennedy said, “This year stands out for me from years past because I was able to announce that our National Honor Society chapter at Kellenberg Memorial High School has been awarded the National Award of Overall Excellence.”
This award is given to a select few chapters that truly embody what the National Honor Society stands for. This is the first time that the Kellenberg chapter has been acknowledged.
The Latin School’s NJHS was also awarded the National Award of Overall Excellence, highlighting their achievements as a school that shows what the National Honor Society is all about. This was the first time that Kellenberg applied for either of these awards and remarkably granted both of them.
In addition, Firebirds with perfect attendance were awarded. Each student, regardless of grade level, was called to the stage by name to achieve an honorary pin from Mr. Lyons, Director of Guidance.
With a handshake and a smile, fellow Firebirds were made known individually, with cameras live-streaming every moment. This gave family and friends the opportunity to watch these important moments in their loved ones’ academic journey, no matter what distance separates them.
Newly inducted NHS officer senior Kira Petrosky stated, “It was a great honor to stand up on stage before my peers to be recognized in my new position. Kellenberg has provided me with so many tools and extensive support throughout the years and I could not be more grateful. The awards ceremony truly highlighted that for all students, as well as the substantial effort and assistance that Kellenberg provides.”
The gold blazer worn by the National Honor Society students as they assist in school events has become a symbol of, as Mr. Kennedy proudly states, “Service, outstanding character, high academic achievement, and leadership.”
