Homeroom Connections, a new addition to Kellenberg’s various assemblies, were introduced for the first time this school year.
Designed to build community and encourage student bonding, these assemblies added 18 extra minutes to the usual homeroom period on select days throughout the year. In this short amount of time, students were able to relax and kick off their school day in a fun way with games and activities.
The initiative aimed to give students more than just a place to start their day; it offered a space to connect, engage, and build relationships within their homeroom groups.
These homeroom meetings were designed and run by freshman biology teacher Mrs. Masiulis.
“It has truly been a privilege to be part of the homeroom connections mission. With the help and encouragement from the guidance department, the ministry of support, and the student life office, our school community forged and fostered relationships within each homeroom,” she stated.
Electronics and school work were set aside to make meaningful and personal connections between homeroom members. The activities ranged from motivational videos, mindfulness exercises, and group discussions to creative or art-based challenges, individual competitions, and team challenges.
Mrs. Masiulis exclaimed, “My hope was to bring the heart back to each homeroom! I am so grateful for everyone’s all-in approach. I wholeheartedly believe that this initiative has had a wonderful impact on our students and the entire school community.”
Students found the experience refreshing and enjoyed having the opportunity to get to know classmates they might not otherwise interact with during the school day.
By dedicating time to connection and community, Kellenberg has taken a meaningful step toward creating a stronger, more unified, and exciting environment for all students.
