Poem by Elizabeth Califano ’28
in a friendship
there are days
where alone grows colder
and darker throughout the day
my mind gets busier
like the city during the late afternoon noisy
overstimulating
until i found you
and the noise gets cancelled out
the sun shines through the clouds
and the remnants of ice thaw out
in you i find rest
when i am weary
in you i find a friend
when i stand isolated
in you i find my missing piece
as we complete each other
in you i see the good
in a world full of bad
with you i am never alone
with you i am at peace
with you i never have to be anyone else with you
i never have to dread being alone because you are everything i’ll ever need.
