On Tuesday, October 15, Kellenberg homerooms competed in a pumpkin decorating contest.
As an installment under Kellenberg’s “Homeroom Connections”, students and faculty used colors, fabrics, and props to deck their pumpkins in their best fall spirit. Students put in their best efforts in their attempt to win the prize for the best pumpkin in their grade. Each homeroom tried to outdo the other with their themes. In one room, a student might find a pale pumpkin-shaped ghost, in another, a jolly Mets fan pumpkin.
Junior Alison Fennes, who helped decorate the 11E homeroom pumpkin, said her homeroom really went all out: “My homeroom teacher, Mr. Brown, said he wanted our theme to be world peace. So, we painted our pumpkin like a globe and made little monsters holding hands out of popsicle sticks and stuck them onto the globe!” Alison’s homeroom was especially enthusiastic about the competition. “A lot of my friends and I even stayed after homeroom to make sure our pumpkin looked great. It was such a fun event!”
As this is the first time Kellenberg has done a pumpkin decorating contest, it served as a great opportunity for students and teachers to channel their competitive and creativity sides within their homerooms.
