Kellenberg has recently unveiled a renovated weight room, located in St. Sebastian Hall.
The room is truly an impressive sight, with sleek grey and royal blue machines and a fresh paint job.
Junior Annie Schiller says, “As a track athlete, my favorite additions are all the brand new treadmills.” Fellow junior Charlize Marmol says, “I love the endurance training machines, such as the elliptical and the squat racks.”
The weight room is open for anyone to use before homeroom from 6:30 to 7:45 AM, and after school. Additionally, students have the opportunity to go to the weight room during gym classes.
The Kellenberg Morning Crew is a group of students that have perhaps benefited the most from the refined room. Every morning, they come to school hours early to workout before most students are even out of bed. Their motto is “Train. Recover during the school day. Dominate practice.” They work out as a team, helping to correct each other’s form or offering encouragement during their demanding effort.
Mr. Alfala offers daily workout plans on a board for the students to follow, or they can follow their own training techniques. On the last Friday of every month, anyone who is willing is able to participate in a bench press competition to try and achieve a new personal record.
Veronica Braut, ‘27, says, “Going to the weight room is the perfect way to start my day because I get my workout out of the way, and then I have plenty of time after school for schoolwork and activities.”
Another regular is the strength trainer, Coach Cole, who works with some of the teams such as lacrosse, football, and wrestling. He assigns the team a day of the week to come in, even in the off season, and gives them a lifting plan. He offers assistance when needed by correcting their form and tracking their weight.

In the fall, each student had two gym classes dedicated to the ins and outs of navigating the weight room. As it was some students’ first time working out there, they were excited to see all of the resources available to them.
Kellenberg is confident that much improvement in the athletic programs will result from this new and improved addition to our school.
The new weight room was built by the Dynamic Fitness and Strength company as an investment in our students and teams, to give them the tools they need to reach their athletic endeavors.
