The Lady Firebird Track and field team qualified 12 of its team members to the NYSTATE Federation Championship Meet on March 3. The team defeated the Archdiocese of New York undefeated team, Notre Dame Academy of Staten Island, the Brooklyn-Queens Champion, Archbishop Molloy, and the 27 other CHSAA member schools while succumbing to NY #2 team St. Anthony’s. Gillian Blackwood will represent the CHSAA in the HJ, Camryn Beckford in the 300, Nora Bennett in the 1000 meters, Gabby Buissereth, Julia Bryant, Madison Scott, and Chrissy Foster in the 4×400 Relay. In addition, Maureen Lewin was the Intersectional Champion in the 1000 meters as well as qualifying in the 1500 meters. In doing so, Lewin’s performance was the best Indoor “double” by any Kellenberg distance girl ever. The other Intersectional Gold Medalists were Maya Richardson, Brianna Lausev, Madeline Lay, and Bennett in the 4×800 Relay. Lausev earlier ran to a personal best in her bronze medal-winning 3000-meter race in 10:29, the fastest 3k for a Kellenberg girl since Firebird legend Kelsey Malmquist in 2006.
