Step Club, Kellenberg’s newest sport club, was introduced by two students, Kaira Springer and Victoria White, who approached Mrs. Delbrune to get their idea organized and pitched.
Over the summer, Mrs. Delbrune continued her research on Step and attended a step recital. Here, she found the owner of the dance company and contacted Jasmine Clark, who choreographed the dance, in hopes to get her help with the step club at Kellenberg.
The club has already performed once, at the Student Life HBCU presentation, and has another scheduled for the Black History Month presentation with the One Heart, One Mind, Many Cultures Club.
Kaira and Victoria started this club to create a community like the ones they see online, and increase diversity and inclusivity within Kellenberg.
It has become a second family for dancers; every week from 3:30 to 4:30 on Wednesdays, these girls come together to learn more about their culture and hope that other students can learn from them too.
Victoria White said, “This club has become a place where I can come and relate to the girls around me; it is a whole new community for me.”
Mrs. Delbrune hopes to keep this club growing, to eventually become a sports team and a bigger community of girls to increase African American culture at Kellenberg.
