On Friday, November 8, Kellenberg hosted its annual Veterans Tribute Dinner, sponsored by the Kellenberg Memorial High School History Club. This long-standing tradition was organized by faculty members Mr. Cartier, Mr. James Krug, and Mr. Joseph Krug.
The evening began with sophomore Abigail Hassett, the Master of Ceremonies, introducing Kellenberg’s very own Troop 87, who proudly presented the nation’s colors. This was followed by the senior members of the Firebird Swing Chorus performing the “Star Spangled Banner.”
Junior James Watkins then conducted the POW/MIA Ceremony, and an extravagant KMHS bagpipe performance. After these performances, Fr. Thomas Cardone, the school chaplain, took the podium and delivered a prayer for all of the nation’s veterans, past and present.
The evening continued with a lovely dinner served by members of S.A.L.T., and another performance led by the Firebird Swing Chorus, directed by Miss D’Argenio.
Juniors Valentina Panaro and Charles Flete recited the last letter of Major Sullivan Ballou, before Abigail Hassett once again taking the podium to deliver a heartfelt Tribute Address.
Seniors Annemarie Jones and Gianna Finocchio, sophomore Gavin Justice, and freshman Bryce Fiore-Heery presented a Remembrance Address and the evening concluded with Retired Master Sergeant Peter Gong performing T.A.P.S, the bugle calls traditionally sounded at military funerals to honor fallen service members.
Veterans in attendance expressed their gratitude for the event and for being remembered and honored for their sacrifices. John Faranda, a United States Navy veteran, said, “It was a remarkable evening, and I felt proud that somebody sees what the veterans did.”
325 guests celebrated at Kellenberg this year. Each year, the Veterans Tribute Dinner continues to be a meaningful and memorable celebration, bringing veterans and their families together to appreciate all those who have served our country. Keep the date in mind next year if you wish to help Kellenberg honor United States veterans.
