On November 5th, Physics students and teachers took an interactive, learning centered trip to St. John’s University in Jamaica, Queens.
The teachers on the trip were Mr. Wevers, Mr. Ditrano, and Ms. Ronan. For four hours total, students were able to get a good look at the full campus at St. John’s. Of course, since the trip revolved around Physics, they visited the new St. Vincent Health Sciences Center. It is used by all St. John’s nursing students as well as any student in a Health Sciences program, including Pharmacology. The new state of the art building was opened in 2024. The structure has ample classrooms with advanced labs. The students were able to tour the real-world simulation labs that nursing students use to practice, as well as the X-ray technician machine.
Attendees found the trip very exciting and it taught them many new things. It also sparked some new ideas for careers in healthcare for some students. Junior Tessa Fennell said, “The trip was not a boring lecture, but a fun, informative experience.”
If you have an interest in Science and you have not taken Physics yet, this trip is a must go for you in the future. All the teachers who helped put this trip together deserve a special thank you for making it possible to give students an opportunity to learn in a fun new way.
