MT 8:5-11
A sinful man approaches Jesus asking him to heal his servant who is ill. Jesus agrees to heal him, but the man says that he does not feel worthy for Jesus to enter under his roof because he is so sinful. By admitting he is sinful, he actually shows his great faith. Jesus is very impressed and says he has never found anyone in Israel of such great faith. To me, this shows that no matter how sinful we are, Jesus is always by our side. Advent is a time of preparation for the birth of Jesus. It is a time to mentally and spiritually prepare for His coming. In this time we must repent, meditate, and fast. Although we are sinful, God does not abandon us. He still sends us the greatest gift, his son. In this gospel, I think a great lesson is learned. We are not all perfect, but that doesn’t make us lesser in God’s eyes.
