LK 1:26-38
During Advent, we prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. But before Jesus was born, a young woman had to be chosen to give birth to the Son of the Most High. So it is said, “in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin named Mary.” Mary, although stunned because of what she had heard, willingly took up the Lord’s request saying, “Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Mary’s great “Yes” sparks the beginning of our preparations for the birth of Jesus Christ.
This Gospel shows that it is necessary to say yes to God and allow him to take part in our lives. Our preparations conclude at Christmas when Christ is born. We need to let Jesus be in the middle of the circle for our celebration of Christmas.
