As the chaotic season of Christmas approaches, many seem to forget the spiritual and essential season of Advent that comes beforehand. In these 4 weeks before Christ comes, we are supposed to be opening our hearts and bettering ourselves for the birth of our Savior. However, the distraction of the shopping, baking, and other holiday stressors tends to take precedence in our busy lives. Personally, one of my favorite things about Advent is that if you take a moment to slow down and focus on saying a prayer or doing a simple meditation when things become disruptive, you seem to notice the silence and peacefulness of the season. As human beings, we often become wrapped around trivial matters, but when we give ourselves the time to focus solely on Jesus and the ultimate sacrifices He made for us, it acts as a reminder to pay more attention to the real reason for the season. I try to encourage others around me such as family and friends to do the same when they start to steer off the track for the real reason we celebrate Christmas/Advent.
