Kindness is a beautiful thing, and the last 2 weeks at Kellenberg have been a serene
experience. World kindness week has gone quite well for the students at Kellenberg memorial,
across the Latin school and the High school. The project, spearheaded by Mr. Lyons in
conjunction with the guidance department, has been centered around being kind to one another.
A central feature of this project is a daily kindness goal. The goal, selected at random by each
homeroom, is an objective for students to complete each day. Some examples are to talk to
someone new, let someone sit at your lunch table for the day, or hold the door for someone.
Regarding world kindness week, Mr. Lyons stated “The best way to help yourself
is to help others”. He showed a willingness to improve the program for future iterations, but is
also happy with how it went and hopes that kindness in school translates to kindness at home. A
major objective of the program in the future is to improve student quality of life via building
respectful relationships and kind interactions between students, faculty, and staff.
World kindness day is celebrated internationally on November 13th, introduced in 1998
by the World Kindness Association. Their website is accessible on
theworldkindnessmovement.org.
