MT 21 : 33-43, 45-46
In this passage, Jesus shares a parable with the the chief elders and priests. He speaks of a landowner who planted a vineyard and leased it to some tenants. The tenants refused to give him any produce and killed the landowner’s son as well. Jesus asks the Pharisees what the landowner will do? They answer, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.” Jesus reminds them of the scripture: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes? Jesus is speaking about the chief priests directly, saying he is the stone thrown away. He will become the cornerstone and his followers will be granted a better fruit than those who did not believe in him. Jesus is the foundation of our faith. Many people rejected him, especially during his Passion, but later came to realize his sacrifice and their need for him in their lives.
