John 5: 1- 16
The location of the Gospel is in Jerusalem, during a feast. The day was a Sabbath, so no work could be done. Like the importance of yesterday’s Gospel, Jesus’s commands can and do have life altering changes.
Near one of the healing pools, Jesus finds a man who has been ill for nearly a lifetime, and has been seeking for someone to carry him into the waters. Christ tells him, “Rise, take up your mat, and walk.” But the Jews saw the cured man carry his mat, a violation of work on the sabbath, and sought to find the man responsible for telling to do such work.
The cured found Christ again, and was told, “Look, you are well;do not sin any more, so that nothing worse may happen to you.”
The Gospel concludes that Jews began to persecute Jesus, starting to fulfill Christ’s testimony from yesterday’ Gospel of how no honor is found by a prophet in his home
