Kellenberg Memorial High School is pleased to announce that eight of its students were recognized as Place Winners and Finalists in the March 27, 2014 Diocesan Respect Life Youth Awards Ceremony. Their submissions were selected from over a thousand entries island-wide.
Among the winners receiving monetary scholarships totaling $1,750.00 were junior Natalie Gallego and sophomore Kylie Roberts for their first place music and poetry entries, respectively. Also in the poetry category, sophomore Maria Rose Giamanco captured second place as did fellow sophomore Liam Deery for his essay. Third place winners were: sophomore James O’Hanlon in photography, senior Colette Sweeney in bookmark design and sophomore Christine Hodelin for her photomontage board. Finalists included sophomore Justina O’Brien in poetry.
Participants are asked to creatively address one of the life issues by submitting a poem, essay, photograph, bookmark design, photomontage board, video clip, or song that ties in with the contest theme. This year’s theme was “Open Your Hearts to Life.”
