On Saturday, the girls varsity lacrosse team traveled to Long Beach for a non-league contest, where they defeated the Marines by a score of 6-2.
Kailyn Mastrogiovanni led the team in points with one goal and two assists, meanwhile Mairead O’Sullivan added two goals of her own. Goals were also scored by Gianna Felicetti, Libby McDermott, and Maggie Kane.
Gianna Felicetti and Libby McDermott were unstoppable on the draw circle, collecting eight draw controls combined. The defense was locked down with strong play from Veronica Braut, Lily Kavanagh, Dempsey Smith, and Caroline Woram who combined for four caused turnovers and five ground balls, shutting down the Long Beach attack and allowing only six shots on cage. Finally, Madison Spinella was lights out in goal collecting four key saves to secure the win for the Firebirds.
The team has two important league games this week, starting with an away game today at St. John the Baptist. Tune in tomorrow for results!
