On the morning of Good Friday, April 3, 2026, Kellenberg students gathered in front of the Nassau County Medical Center to participate in the annual Face the Truth event, a rally sponsored by the Long Island Coalition for Life, to stand in support of unborn children. Representing a range of grade levels, the students were united in their goal: to peacefully advocate for the dignity of human life and to raise awareness about alternatives to abortion.
While the event was peaceful, it was not without controversy. Throughout the morning, students held signs with messages such as “Adoption: The Loving Option,” aiming to promote alternatives to abortion by highlighting support for women facing a truly difficult decision. Sadly, the students were approached by angry, pro-choice adults who attempted to intimidate students through inflammatory comments. Fortunately, the students remained calm and respectful: exhibiting exemplary behavior while exercising their First Amendment constitutional right.
Mr. John O’Brien, Chairman of the Long Island Coalition for Life, remarked, “I am very happy by the turnout which increases each year.” The Long Island Coalition for Life is a civic organization that welcomes members from all faiths in advocating their message of “Every Life Deserves a Lifetime.” The organization aims to protect all life, including respectful means for end-of-life care.
Kellenberg was well represented at the event with not only students in swag, but alumni who are parents of current students and even a recent alumna who returns to participate each year.
Grace McKenna, a member of the Kellenberg Class of 2020, who attended LaSalle University in Philadelphia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Arts and Multimedia Design, participates in the event each year when she returns to Long Island to celebrate Easter with her family.
The event is also supported by the Knights of Columbus, who through the stewardship of Robert Dougherty, offers annual competitive scholarships to students who submit essays addressing the sanctity of life.
Kellenberg students uniformly expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to participate in such a meaningful event. In a complex and often divided world, standing up for one’s faith while engaging thoughtfully with others is an important effort to make.
