The Piano Coterie is a new club for pianists in grades 6-12 which gives the opportunity to share their talents as well as receive critiques from the other club members. The club is a great opportunity for pianists because there are no classes or clubs to exclusively practice piano. The Piano Coterie creates a positive atmosphere to showcase all the students’ personal talents as well as the talents of Kellenberg.
Junior Erin Feliciano and Senior Vivian Andrade-Varela brought the idea for the Piano Coterie to music teacher Mr. Garcia. Mr. Garcia decided to moderate this club because he wants to create spaces for musicians to share experiences.
Erin said, “I wanted to create this club to give pianists an opportunity to be heard as well as improve their skill to raise their confidence when playing in front of an audience.” Both Erin and Vivian are excited not only to see the pianists of Kellenberg be recognized for their skill, but also for them to grow close connections by learning from one another.
Each meeting, the club members will perform a piece for each other and everyone will give the player constructive criticism. Club members could also be faced with the challenge of learning a piece for a future meeting and performing it for the other members.
Piano Coterie now joins the Bagpipe Club and Guitar Club as Kellenberg’s musical extracurriculars.
This club will meet on Wednesdays after school in the FCAA orchestra room. If you are interested in joining, please contact Mr. Garcia with any questions.
