On Saturday, January 14, the boys track and field team made a return to the Stanner Games with some stellar performances. Evans Linzey set a new personal best in the 300 dash to get into the finals where he finished second to fellow Catholic School Stepinac. Luke Stackpole set a new personal record in the 55 hurdles and joined Ryan Mroz, Will Mullin, and Kevin O’Keefe to set a season best in the shuttle hurdle relay. Ryan “Jumpman” Mroz set two new personal bests in the long jump and the triple jump with his distance in the triple being 3 feet better than his previous best. Ryan earned a silver medal in the triple for his efforts.
Later in the day, Nicolas Baldwin, Michael Haskell, Justin McKenzie and Malachi McCaskill along with Darren Rhooms, Dasani Millien, Rinvel Rosseau, and Felipe Montes set season bests in their relays. In an effort that can only be comparable to the Giant’s upset playoff win over the Vikings, the 4×200 “A” relay of Kavon Morris, Evans Linzey, Ethan Thomas, and Mario Sanabria came from behind to secure the gold in the last race of the evening. The relay’s efforts have secured them a spot in the prestigious Millrose Games to be held in the Armory on February 11th.
The team has now seemingly rolled through their meets with constant success, and the boys should be feeling as jubilant as ever. Dasani Millien reiterates that belief, stating, “It is amazing to be part of such a great group. It’s hard to match our chemistry as a team and our well deserved success has been really cool to experience.”
The boys show no signs of slowing down, and will presumably thrive in their upcoming events.
