Article by Phoenix writer Allison Cortese ’26:
On October 7th, over three hundred members of the class of 2026 lit up the dance floor at our annual Freshman Dance. A neon theme was established by GSO, and students did not disappoint. Many came dressed with colorful clothing, glow sticks, and hats. The event was planned for freshmen by freshmen, which truly made this night so special.
After marking their attendance in the lobby, students headed to the Queen of Apostles Courtyard where they were met with teachers, Marinast mentors, and fellow students. Mr. O’Brien, who under his alias, “DJ OB”, stole the show, playing fan-favorite songs and allowing students to sing, dance, and make memories with friends. Games like Kan Jam and cornhole were available to the freshmen, as well as snack tables, providing something for everyone.
A memorable moment from the dance would be when students gathered around Mr. O’Brien for the bridge of “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown Band. He spoke over the microphone saying, “This is our prayer tonight.” Each student placed their left hand in the air and their right over their heart. At this time, everyone gathered in spirit as one Kellenberg community. This night brought everyone especially close to each other and helped them build endless friendships and memories. Together, the freshmen lit up the night, and not a single student was left in the darkness.
