Kellenberg Juniors Elizabeth Halpin and Nora Butler participated in Long Island’s Coalition for Life Oratory Contest on Saturday, March 25, a fitting day as it is the feast of the Annunciation.
The contest was held at the Joseph Barry Knights of Columbus chapter in Hicksville where participants were required to write and deliver their own speech on a pro-life topic.
Mr. Cummings, an English teacher and moderator of Speech and Debate Club, said, “Language is a powerful way of connecting with people, and this contest can result in discussions that can lead to real change.”
Elizabeth Halpin was awarded 2nd place for her speech while Nora Butler earned 4th place. Both students did exceptionally well and have continued Kellenberg’s mission to promote life.
Elizabeth shared, “I had a very positive experience presenting my speech for the Coalition of Life because it gave me an opportunity to speak on a cause I feel so passionately about. I hope that my speech encouraged the adults in the pro-life movement to know that there are young people advocating for the sanctity of the lives of the unborn.”
The Coalition for Life is an organization dedicated to promoting life from the moment of conception to natural death. In particular, they fight against the use of abortion and euthanasia through education, legislative action, and prayer.
