After celebrating Mass on Ascension Thursday, 20 juniors spent the day learning molecular genetics laboratory techniques at the Cold Spring Harbor DNA Learning Center. The students worked with enzymes that cut large DNA fragments into smaller fragments. Since they were working on the molecular level, students learned how to work with micropipettes to measure extremely small amounts of DNA, enzymes, and solutions. After three hours working in the laboratory, students were able to visualize the DNA fragments and view their results. The trip also included a tour of the Northwell Health Core Laboratory which processes medical specimens 24 hours per day.
