The Senior Send-Off, an evening cruise around the island of Manhattan on Thursday, May 30, marked the last school event for the class of 2024 before graduation.
The Cruise, which included a dinner buffet, a DJ and dancing, was highlighted by breathtaking views of the New York City skyline, as the sun set while the boat floated past the iconic Statue of Liberty.
Senior Damien Sileo noted, “Aside from being with all my friends, my favorite part of the night was definitely the view. Getting to watch the sunset behind the Statue of Liberty was amazing, and a moment I will not forget.”
Students met at the Kellenberg auditorium for a final time before taking coach buses to the Manhattan port. After boarding the boat, the night began with a dinner buffet, which included a wide range of delicious options, such as salmon, grilled chicken, and steak. This was followed by a dessert of cookies and brownies.
The rest of the night, students celebrated the end of their high school careers with dancing and enjoying the scenery of New York City. For many students, it was similar to previous Kellenberg dances and events, but it felt even more notable due to it being the final one.
Senior Felipe Montes agreed with this sentiment, saying, “It was a great night, I really enjoyed being with the entire class one last time. The night had a similar vibe to other events, but it felt extra special since it was the end.”
Of course it could not be a Kellenberg dance without Mr. O’Brien, or DJOB. The night ended with DJOB taking over the music selection and playing songs that he felt best represented the class of 2024, while students (along with Mr. Moncada) took up the dance floor and enjoyed their last moments before becoming Kellenberg alumni.
The class of 2024 is a prime example of the belief that the people make the place. Whether it was in the Kellenberg gymnasium, courtyard, or a cruise around Manhattan, each Kellenberg event felt special because of the people. Overall, the Senior Send-Off was a great night and a perfect farewell to the graduating class before the commencement exercises of the following Sunday.
