Article by Phoenix writer Allison Cortese ’26:
On February 9th, the Kellenberg family came together in charity for the fourth annual “Souper” Bowl. In honor of the 2024 Super Bowl, which took place on February 11, students, faculty, and staff were given the opportunity to wear a football jersey in lieu of their blazer. In exchange, students were asked to bring in cans of soup. All donations were collected in the lobby and set to be delivered to numerous parishes’ food pantries throughout the diocese. All donors demonstrated acts of civility, order, and respect, the elements of the COR mnemonic that is greatly emphasized here at Kellenberg. This service exemplified a great Christian example, allowing students to act in the way of Christ.
Sophomore Daniella Sciametta, a student rooting for the 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl, wore a 49ers sweatshirt after dropping off soup cans in the lobby. She also had the opportunity to deliver soup donations to the St. William the Abbot pantry with her PREP group. Daniella stated, “The “Souper” Bowl is a nice event at Kellenberg and a great opportunity to give.”
This tradition allows students to demonstrate a humble, philanthropic lifestyle, along with an aspect of fun through sporting their football jerseys. Each year, Kellenberg’s “Souper” Bowl remains an event to remember.
