In honor of World Kindness Day, which is celebrated in the United States on November 13th, Kellenberg hosted its own “World Kindness Day Celebration” on November 17th, 2023.
This event showcased the Disney movie “Elemental,” which features many messages about kindness, including cultural kindness. Fifty students were in attendance to watch this film, and they each received a gift bag filled with inspirational quotes.
KMHS Support, the Body, Mind, and Heart Club, and Sophomore GSO hosted this event, which was open to all students, in the auditorium. Latin School GSO also had their own viewing of the film, and members handed out these inspirational gift bags to everyone in each 6th grade homeroom. Mrs. Fiore, who came up with this event, shares, “My favorite part was having students know about a national kindness day. I think it’s important for students to be kind in big and small ways.”
The entire school also participated in the celebration in their homerooms. For the first time, Father Dan led the school in a Kindness Prayer on the morning announcements. Following, students received paper chain links in their homeroom and wrote an easy act of kindness that they could perform on each link. The paper chain links were then hung up in every classroom, and serve as a reminder for students to show kindness daily. Each homeroom also started a kindness calendar for the month.
Overall, the World Kindness Day Celebration was a success as it motivated many students to spread kindness to others.
