On Saturday, September 16th, the Varsity Football Team defeated St. Francis Prep by a score of 38 to 18 in the annual Homecoming game. This game is always one of the most anticipated of the year, and the team did not disappoint.
Quarterback Kenny Noe wasted no time getting points on the board, as Coach Meisse praised him after he “got the Homecoming Crowd fired up” when he opened up the scoring for the day with a 3 yard touchdown run.
On the next defensive series, tackles from Vincenzo Cascone, Kevin McGrory and Isaiah Gittens put a stop to the St. Francis drive. With the ball back Kenny Noe found Jack Geoghan for a deep 40 yard reception setting up another Noe rushing touchdown.
After a Terrier touchdown, Donovan O’Toole took the ensuing kickoff 90 yards to the house for the Firebirds.
A fumble recovery by Patrick Darcy would then set the Birds up with a two minute drill opportunity which culminated with Noe finding Jack Geoghan for a 9 yard touchdown as time expired on the half to take a commanding lead.
In the second half the Firebirds kept the pressure on as they added two more touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, a 3 yard run by Nick Kramer and a 3rd and final rushing touchdown for Quarterback Kenny Noe. On the defensive side of the ball Noah Foster, Ryan Galla, and Connor Evert all recorded a sack in the half.
A week later, the team traveled to SUNY Maritime and enjoyed a victory over Christ the King by a score of 35 to 8 in the wet and windy effects of Hurricane Ophelia. Noah Foster commented “The past two games have been great, and hopefully we can continue this momentum for the rest of the season.”
The team is grateful for all the students who make the Birds Nest the best student section in the area.
The Firebirds are looking to extend their winning streak this Friday night for the annual Whiteout game.
