For the third year in a row, the “The Lady Firebird” Cross Country team ran to both the Varsity and JV Team titles. The Varsity team gets to bring home the Father Philip Eichner team plaque once again.
Nora Bennett boldly went after Sacred Heart’s individual winner early in the race. The unusually hot late-October afternoon caught up to Bennett late in the race, as she gamely held on for fourth place with teammate Maureen Lewin coming on strong in the last half mile to take third. Veteran junior runner Julia Bryant placed seventh, with stellar sophomores Brianna Lausev and Maya Richardson taking ninth and tenth to solidify the win.
The JV Team won handily with a brilliantly run first place finish by Bridget Lapham. Teammates Clare Calabro, Erin Doherty, Emma Dougherty, and Clare O’Hara rounded out the top scoring. A top seven finish by Catherine Cooke in the freshman race helped lead the freshman team to a third place finish.
