The Latin School Book Club is a place for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student who is interested in reading novels and sharing their thoughts and opinions with other students in an open forum setting.
Throughout the school year, members read chapters of a chosen novel and meet weekly to discuss their ideas over snacks.
In the past, the club read novels in the genres of realistic fiction and fantasy. This year, however, the club is planning to start with a dystopian science fiction. Members are able to take polls and vote on what types of stories they want to read throughout the school year.
Mrs. Page, the moderator of the club, said, “I love reading, especially children’s literature, so I thought it would be a great way to build a little literary community where Latin Schoolers can have the opportunity to read and share their literary insights in whatever way they feel comfortable with.”
Squire Francesca Stein, a returning member, shared, “Everyone in the club has a lot of fun. At the end of last year, we watched the movie version of a book we had read and people baked and brought in snacks.”
This is the club’s second year and meetings are weekly after school on Fridays in room 140 from 3 – 4 PM. Anyone interested can join on Friday, September 16th in room 140 after school or by contacting Mrs. Page. Official meetings will start on September 30th.
