Yesterday, the boys Latin School Lacrosse team kicked off the season with a 10 to 2 victory over St. Bernards.
The Firebirds jumped out of the gate on a five goal run in the first quarter and never looked back. James Canty dominated the faceoff game for the Birds all day, continually giving the team much needed possessions.
Contributing goals were made by JP Ventrudo, James Moran, Cristiano Garcia, Vincent D’Ambrosi, Michael D’Agostino, Pat Mulroy, and Owen McShane.
Louis Mangas, Nick Warywoda, and Conor O’Neill combined for nine saves in the winning effort. The defense was led by Drake Rich and his mammoth body check to intimidate St. Bernards offense while Wade Torreblanca led the team in ground balls.
The team is back in action on Thursday when Kellenberg hosts Greenvale on Matthew field.
