From November 8 to 10, fourteen delegates from Kellenberg’s Model UN team traveled to their first conference of the year, the University of Connecticut Model UN Conference. The Delegates from Kellenberg participated on five different committees, and were joined by 400 other students from about 30 other schools.
Junior Amelia Campbell was a part of the Press Corps committee. She commented that, “Working in that committee was such an amazing learning experience that taught me a lot about journalism around the world.” Junior John Gaffney also partook in the Press Committee and stated, “I had to write articles and breaking news as details emerged from the committee awards.” He also included that, “My time at the conference was much more than debating, it was about the relationships and conversations I forged.”
Even though there were over 400 other students, Kellenberg’s delegates had no problem rising to the top. A huge congratulations goes out to Secretary General Christopher Rocco who won the Betty Hansen Award, an award given to the best delegate in the entire conference. Congratulations as well to Junior John Gaffney for winning Most Outstanding Delegate for the Press Corp Committee, and Senior John Renz for winning best Delegate for Joint Crisis Committee 2.
The UCMUN conference, as always, was a very enriching and enjoyable time for the students. Senior Meghan Lazzarini, Director General of the club, stated, “UCMUN has always been a very well-run conference, and this year is no different. Everyone had a lot of fun debating their respective topics, and I’m proud of how well everyone did!”
This conference taught the delegates that even though everyone has differences, peace can be found through diplomacy. The success of the Kellenberg Model UN Team proves that the future is in excellent hands.
