On Saturday, the boys track team took their talents upstate to compete in the “Race at the Oval Office” at FDR High School in Staatsburg, where the highlight of the day came in the 100 meter final when senior Kavon Morris demolished his personal record running an astounding 10.92 seconds to take home gold in the event.
His efforts now put him second all-time for Kellenberg Memorial and earned him Kellenberg Strider of the Meet honors.
Sophomore Malachi McCaskill was right on Kavon’s heels taking home silver in the event with a time of 11.04.
Evans Linzey took home gold in the 400 meter with Ethan Thomas and Mario Sanabria setting personal bests in the same event. In the 110 meter hurdles, Danny Carsey was a finalist with Sebastian Galofaro setting a personal best. In the 400 meter hurdles, Will Mullin was a top 5 finisher en route to a personal best. The 4×400 relay of Nicolas Baldwin, Justin McKenzie, Danny Carsey, and Christian Calderon held off some hard charging teams to earn bronze medals. Ryan Mroz and Kavon Morris were finalists in the long jump with Ryan bringing home gold in the triple jump.
The day started off with bronze medals for the relay team of Nicolas Baldwin, Felipe Montes, Rinvel Rousseau, and Christian Calderon in the sprint medley relay.
About the race, junior Felipe Montes said “I’m proud of the relay team for putting together a great performance despite it being the first time we ran that specific relay.”
The team looks forward to this Saturday’s meet at St. Anthony’s where they will compete in the NSCHSAA Championship.
