The Kellenberg Firebird Spring Concert of 2022 opened with the “National Anthem” performed by the Firebird Chorus in tribute to the many Kellenberg families serving in the United States Armed Forces.
This was soon followed by the Firebird Orchestra performing “Mythos” by Soon Hee Newbold and “Lullaby to the Moon” by Brian Balmages. The closing piece was “ Viva La Vida “ by Coldplay. The orchestra was able to beautifully weave in each note with the musicians on stage.
The Firebird Chorus entered the theater singing “ Siyahamba “, an African freedom song that was later edited by Doreen Rao. “ Blackbird” by The Beatles was sung along with “Weep No More” arranged by David Childs. The next song was “No One is Alone” from the famous musical, “ Into the Woods”. The upbeat song, “ Praise His Holy Name” by Keith Hampton, concluded the Chorus’ section. This song included many riffing solos from students which added another layer of cheerful energy!
The beginning piece for the Firebird Band was “On Freedom’s Wings” by Ayatay Shabazz. Then continued with “Pieces of Eight” by Larry Clark, a song inspired by a famous pirate myth! The conclusion was a choice from the Superhero Universe, “Captain Marvel ( Main Theme )”, the words by Pinor Toprak and arranged by Micheal Brown.
The Firebird Musical Family joined together for a resounding finale. “Battle Hymn of the Republic” by Howe-Steefe was a great representation of harmony. A final thank you was given at the end for all Kellenberg Seniors. A standing ovation was given to truly conclude the concert.
