On Saturday the varsity football team concluded the regular season with a 35 to 13 win over Moore Catholic. Quarterback Devin Page got the Firebirds rolling on the opening drive of the game when took a quarterback keeper 53 yards for a touchdown. After a quick stop by the Firebirds defense, Ethan Cumming capped off the ensuing Firebird drive with a 5 yard touchdown run. After a pair of Moore Catholic scores to bring the game close again, the Firebirds responded with 21 unanswered points of their own. Wide receiver Peter von Schoenermarck hauled in a pair of touchdown passes and Jaden Lyons caught a 41 yard touchdown pass all from Quarterback Devin Page to break the game open. Defensively, Tim McGrath and Anthony Ragusa, each accounted for sacks while Sean Cannon and Jack Ligarzewski led the team in tackles. Tyler Pitaud was the leading tackler on Special Teams adding 3 of his own. The team played an exceptional game, and, in the words of Ethan Cumming, “We definitely played a really good game and now we get a chance to keep it going.” With the win, the team qualified for playoffs and will travel to Archbishop Stepinac this Sunday for the quarterfinals.
