Kellenberg has been celebrating Black History Month this month. The morning announcements have included a segment of Black History Month trivia. The segment was hosted by Martine Demesyeux, Noelle Pierrecharles, and Alesha Jean. All three girls took time out of their day to film these videos after school and during their study hall periods. Noelle said, “I feel like making the videos was a good way to represent the Black community in Kellenberg and shine a light on us.”
Also in honor of Black History Month, the One Heart, One Mind, Many Cultures club is hosting a movie afternoon on Friday, March 3rd. Black Panther was the movie chosen by the students to watch and discuss. Mr. Moncada, the moderator of the club, said, “Diversity, Black History Month, and all heritage months are important to celebrate at our school because it is one of the many ways we can love and appreciate God’s creation. It also helps us to find unity in diversity.”
While on their way to midday prayer or the bookstore, people could stop by to look at the Black History Month display case, created by Brother Michael Gillen, S.M., which featured signs, artwork, and information about Black historical figures.
The Kellenbeg administration makes efforts to celebrate Black History Month and invites its students, faculty, and extended community to celebrate Black history and the diversity of humanity, which is made in the image and likeness of God.
