Article by Phoenix writer Nicholas Cortese ’23:
On February 18, Adelphi University held their annual High School Press Day and Quill Awards Ceremony for Writers. This year, the conference was held virtually. Despite the change of scenery, Kellenberg’s representatives were just as successful.
The school’s newly reformed news source, PhoenixOnline, took home second place for Most Outstanding Newspaper. Isabel Connolly secured the first place victory for Best Feature Article with her piece, “Paws-itive Thinking: Dogs on Campus Help Wellness Effort”. The outstanding article of chief editor, Angelo Tsassis, “Ladies Skate with Men for KMHS Ice Hockey First”, placed second in the Best Sports Story category. Nick Cortese also received an honorable mention for Most Outstanding Reporter.
The PhoenixOnline’s moderator, Mr. Flood, expressed immense gratitude for the honors, saying, “This is a very strong showing for our staff and we are very proud of what we achieved, especially considering this is our first full year online.”
Members of the staff look to first celebrate the recognition, and then to continue improving PhoenixOnline so it can grow into the perfect newspaper.
