LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Katie Cavanaugh (East Rockaway, N.Y./Kellenberg) of the Gettysburg College women’s indoor track and field team was named the Centennial Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Cavanaugh beat out 12 other competitors to win the 55-meter hurdles while breaking her own school record to lead Gettysburg at the Dickinson Early Bird Invitational this past Saturday. In prelims she was timed at 8.38 seconds, clipping her record by a tenth of a second, before finishing in 8.58 in the final. Cavanaugh also placed second among 21 competitors in the 55-meter dash (7.51), and her prelims time of 7.48 moved her into second in school history in the event. In addition, she came in sixth among 16 competitors in the 200-meter dash (28.90).
On the Centennial Conference performance list for the season, Cavanaugh ranks first in the 60-meter hurdles and second in the 60-meter dash with converted times of 9.02 and 8.06, respectively.
Gettysburg returns to competition Jan. 30 at the Lehigh Invitational.
