Kellenberg Memorial’s eighth annual Day of Giving took place on Tuesday, March 19. The day was a huge success for Kellenberg, raising over $195,000 from students, families, and alumni.
The exciting day began with a morning show that included a live audience and student panel. The hosts, seniors Erin Finnegan and Gabriel Blanco, introduced the senior participants who answered questions about their time and memories at Kellenberg.
Each panelist reflected on the giving nature that the Firebird Family prides themselves on, whether it be a teacher assisting a student, peers looking out for each other, or the students filling the halls with a generous spirit on the Day of Giving. The seniors’ enthusiasm for their school truly displays the generosity and community rooted in the Kellenberg family.
Senior Cole Curtis, one of the participants, explains, “The Day of Giving has been a great opportunity for students, their families, and alumni to give back to the school they love. I was fortunate enough to assist with a few other seniors and present the senior class gift to Brother Kenneth.”
The class gift was collected from the senior class who came together to raise over $6,900, which was presented to Principal Bro. Kenneth Hoagland, S.M. in the form of a large check.
Additionally, shirts were given to those who donated over $24 to wear on this day.
The social media team kept the viewers at home “in the loop” by live-streaming the show along with the day’s fun activities on Instagram. At the end of the morning presentation, an exciting surprise hatched: two brand new Firebird mascots.
During each lunch period, students were invited into the “Giving Arena.” When entering the gym, they were greeted by music, games, and free candy. Students were also encouraged to participate in fun raffles ranging from Mets tickets to electric scooters.
The Day of Giving truly encapsulates what Kellenberg stands for and clearly proves the generosity of the students.
