Shortly after returning from Christmas break, Kellenberg announced a brand new Driver’s Education program for eligible Firebirds. Juniors and Seniors with a learner’s permit have priority admission for the course, but sophomores can apply to fill the remaining spots.
The program has been created in collaboration with East Meadow Driving School. Kellenberg employees will be teaching the lecture classes, while East Meadow Driving School employees will instruct driving lessons over the course of 16 weeks. There are various time slots for both the lecture and driving instruction, consisting of before and after school, and Saturdays. Each student will spend a combined three hours per week at some form of driver’s education.
Mr. Cartier, the Director of Special Projects, has been working on this project for several months. He conducted a survey last year asking students if they would be interested in a driver’s education course. Well over 200 students responded that they would participate in the course, indicating that it was time to produce the program. “We are excited to offer this course and are hopeful that it is a successful undertaking that we can continue,” Mr. Cartier shares.
This course is a major opportunity for students who want to attain their driver’s license. “It’s equally convenient and exciting to be able to learn how to drive at my high school; it easily fits into my schedule this way,” notes Senior Mackenzie Ras.
The Driver’s Education course is yet another exciting addition to Kellenberg’s extensive list of opportunities for students.
