On Wednesday, March 14th, the Kellenberg community gathered to commemorate their annual Lenten Mass. All grades 6-12 came together to honor the season of Lent. The Lenten Mass serves as a celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ and a reminder of the promise we made at the beginning of Lent.
Fr. Daniel Griffin, S.M., presided over the Latin school mass, while Fr. Thomas Cardone, S.M., led the mass in the gym with the freshman class and half of the sophomore class. In the auditorium, grades 10-12 had Bishop Robert Brennan as their celebrant. Among the attendees was Latin School homeroom 6B and their moderator, Mr. Daniel Brennan ‘09, who reflected on the significance of his uncle’s presence, highlighting the relationship between him and the Marianist community. “It is always special when my uncle comes and celebrates Mass at Kellenberg. He and the Marianists have a very good relationship that started before I even attended Kellenberg as a student,” he remarks.
The Gospel reading, taken from Luke’s Gospel, told the story of the prodigal son, emphasizing God’s unconditional love for all his children despite the amount of sin they may carry. Bishop Robert Brennan’s homily further elaborated on this theme, speaking on God’s never ending forgiveness and abundance of mercy.
Throughout the Mass, the Gregorian Consortium filled the air with songs of praise and worship. John Renz ‘25 says, “I appreciate the work and effort put into the music ministry by the Gregorian. The music sets the spirit of the mass and uplifts our spirits, especially so early in the morning.”
Overall, the Lenten Mass was a beautiful reminder of Christ’s sacrifice and of our own Lenten promises.
