Article by Phoenix writer Sophia Kelly ’26:
On Thursday, October 26th, senior students in the Spanish, French, and Latin clubs headed up to Stella Maris for an all-day retreat.
The beautiful, sunny day started with a Mass celebrated by Fr. Thomas Cardone, S.M. Students said readings in Spanish and French, honoring their clubs and providing an extra connection to the Eucharist. Students were able to fully embrace the Mass due to their extensive learning of their chosen languages over their four years at Kellenberg.
Senior Alexandra Jean said, “It was such a nice day out for a retreat. I really enjoyed hearing the readings in different languages.”
After Mass, the students did a scavenger hunt outside in the beautiful backyard of Stella Maris. The rest of the retreat had the students outside playing games or hanging out on the dock with the sun shining down on them. Others stayed inside, cooking and enjoying empanadas together.
Some language club moderators and teachers, such as Mrs. Lapelosa, Mr. Moncada, Mrs. Delbrune, and Mrs. Borusso also came along on the retreat.
Mrs. Borusso shared, “It was a great retreat on a beautiful day. We had a lot of fun, and enjoyed foods from cultures all over the world with empanadas the students made, macarons brought in by Mrs. Lapelosa, and a wonderful charcuterie board.”
The day served as a time for seniors to bond with their peers and teachers, pray together in front of Jesus, and learn that when they leave Kellenberg, faith can connect all languages together.
Students interested in going on similar trips and learning more about culture outside the classroom can join the Spanish, French, or Latin club.
