Article by Phoenix writer Bella O’Donnell ’24:
On February 2, 2024, Kellenberg hosted the annual blood drive for our seniors. Over 100 students from the senior class donated a pint of blood.
Several generous seniors even donated blood via the Alyx Machine or the Apheresis (platelet) donation. This machine separates platelets from the blood and donates double the amount of red blood cells during a singular donation. Each pint of blood can save three infant lives. Collectively, our school saved over 400 lives that day.
Saving lives with Kellenberg through blood donations is definitely an enjoyable day, as it lasts all day long and students are rewarded with snacks, hats, and group pictures with friends. One participating student, senior Rayven Rospide, said, “The blood drive was a rewarding and fun thing to experience with friends.”
This event would not have been possible without the hard work of Miss Vigario and Mrs. Finn. Kellenberg would like to thank these two teachers for all of their hard work and making this event possible. A special Firebird thank you goes out to the Spirit Leader seniors who helped run such a successful event, and the New York Blood Center for coming to our campus and collecting the donations. Future seniors should plan on participating in future drives and continue saving lives with Kellenberg Memorial.
