The 2020 Christmas Season may have been different from other years, but Kellenberg upheld its tradition with our annual Christmas decorating throughout different areas of the school. Senior Michaela Markey was responsible for the adornment of the two Christmas trees in the gym while assisted by seniors Jada Isaac and Emma O’Keefe. This decorating team focused on the hanging of ornaments, as the lights had already been hung for them prior to dressing the trees. The team spent an hour on their project under the oversight of Mrs. White. Michaela has received positive feedback from the students in the gym cohorts as well as others who have been through the gym. Students have commented that is was super nice and it brought much Christmas spirit to the school! Michaela Markey reflects, “as a senior at Kellenberg it is definitely not the same as any other year. But I was happy we got to decorate the tree and we had fun with it. Knowing that Jesus is coming we need to focus on that as well as decorating for the coming of Jesus. Since the first-year decorating has been fun and my homeroom has won every year!”
The gym was not the only area that our KMHS decorators focused on. Members of C.R.O.S.S. assisted in decorating the school as well. Traditionally homerooms would compete and involve all students in the school community to join the “competition” of the doors and rooms. This year the C.R.O.S.S. members made snowflakes that decked the halls of the building. Freshman John Collins decorated the freshman hallway, hanging the snowflakes. He commented “the school looked so nice during the Christmas season and I wish I could have been an even bigger help with decorating with lights and look forward to hanging them next year. I was happy to make snowflakes and hang up things in my classroom, it helped brighten up the school with everything going on.” Junior Jessica DiFiglia clearly expresses the true spirit of KMHS and the Advent and Christmas Season saying “coming into school and viewing the nativity brings us to what is truly important during Advent, then entering school and catching glimpses of Christmas cheer throughout our building brings us further to what the season is all about. I know that everyone at Kellenberg feels the same way and shares the same spirit!”
