Article by Phoenix writer Kate Murphy ’25:
Junior Nikolas Yaziciyan, a member of the One Heart One Mind Many Cultures Club gave a thorough presentation on Armenian Culture on November 13th.
Yaziciyan describes Armenia as a country located just east of Turkey that has a rich culture that dates back to ancient times. Although it has a deep rooted culture full of kind and generous people, Armenia as a country is under constant strife and attacks.
Yaziciyan was proud to give this presentation, saying, “It was very significant to me because the media has not covered any of the conflicts that were discussed. It felt good to get the word out.”
By raising awareness for Armenia, Yaziciyan honored his heritage in a very modern and respectable way. In his presentation, he prioritized making others conscious of the pacifist ways of the Armenian people and the fact that they must constantly defend their countries’ and their own territory.
Yaziciyan stated, “We are peaceful people just trying to continue our rich culture and, unfortunately, having to constantly protect our land while doing it.”
Founded last year, the One Heart One Mind Many Cultures Club focuses on helping students become aware of the cultures around them through presentations, multicultural celebrations, games, and guest speakers. The One Heart One Mind Many Cultures Club is looking forward to many more successful activities in the future.
