Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. It celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. The goal of this month is to showcase the Hispanic culture.
One way that the culture is spread throughout Kellenberg is a slideshow that represents famous Hispanic quotes on the televisions in the hallways. There was also a music bracket challenge on Kellenberg’s social media with authentic songs from each Spanish Speaking Country. Each day, the Kellenberg community would vote on their favorite song or country being represented. The top three countries this year were Dominican Republic, United States and Colombia. Culture club is also hosting a flag making competition, which encourages students to be creative, while also highlighting the Hispanic culture throughout the school.
Catherine Fuentes participated in this bracket, as she declared, “I look forward to this month happening every year, as I love when my culture is spreaded.”
One of Kellenberg’s biggest fans of Hispanic Heritage Month, Mrs. Fiore, stated “I am really happy that the school is incorporating different ethic backgrounds that many of the Kellenberg students represent.” Overall, this month commemorates Hispanic heritage and people who have inspired others all around the globe.
