Article by Phoenix writer Justin McKenzie ’24:
The Kellenberg family began welcoming their newest Firebirds to the Birds’ Nest. Kellenberg welcomed the Freshman Class of ‘28, and Latin School Class of ‘29, ‘30, ‘31 to the school.
On January 23 and 24, the proceeding Tuesday and Wednesday, nearly candidates registered for Kellenberg. Each new candidate and their parents got the opportunity to sit one-on-one with a teacher and ask any questions about the school. Kellenberg’s National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society students helped set up the event and provided hospitality to the families. In true Kellenberg fashion, families left with a complimentary cookie, Firebird T-Shirt, and “Future Firebird” lawn sign.
On Saturday, January 20, Kellenberg hosted the Open House for nearly 600 accepted incoming freshmen. As always, guests were welcomed by our Firebird Family and Kellenberg Dogs. Principal Brother Kenneth Hoagland S.M., Athletic Director Mr. Fechtmann, Assistant Principal of Activities Mr. Benintendi, and School Chaplain Father Thomas Cardone S.M. each had a presentation for the candidates. In addition to the faculty presentations, Alumni Lindsey Ehrhardt ‘15 and Eddie Cramsie ‘16 spoke about their experiences as students at Kellenberg.
Kellenberg Swing Chorus and KMHS Drama Club opened up with a performance for prospective Kellenberg students and their parents. Afterwards, students went into the gym where varsity athletes performed a presentation for their sports.
Mr. O’Brien, Assistant Principal for Admissions, touched on the success of this open house, “The open house for accepted candidates shows the family spirit of Kellenberg. Our athletics, academics, Apostolic activities, and extracurricular activities are on display.”
Judging from the success of this year’s Registration and Open Houses, it is safe to say that Kellenberg will be prospering for years to come.
