After 8th period on September 28th, Kellenberg’s Mock Trial team left school for the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut, which would serve as their new home for the weekend. Before the school year even began, the Mock Trial team worked diligently over the summer to prepare a criminal case. Their case focused on the murder of a young pop star, Rebecca Reid. The team expertly wrote openings, direct examinations, cross examinations, and closings to make a winning case. They work on both sides of the case as defense and prosecution to be prepared for anything. Not only did they write and prepare arguments to be presented, some also played witnesses. Francesca Papetti said, “Those playing witnesses are learning how to really become their character, to impress the judges by developing an interesting and exciting plot.” Not only does this build real world skills for the team members, but it also encourages cooperation with their peers and an understanding of law that cannot be achieved during normal class hours. The team was honored to compete at such an esteemed event and looks forward to more opportunities in the future!
