On Saturday, March 2, the Boys Varsity Bowling team brought their winter season to a close as Richard Deem represented the team as the only qualifier in the New York State Tournament.
Deem represented his team very well by winning the high game of the day with an incredible 290 in his first game. If that wasn’t enough, Deem continued to bowl well as the tournament progressed and finished in the top five which allowed him to compete in a step-ladder tournament to determine the winner. Deem was the 5th seed going into the step-ladder tournament which placed him against the 4th seed, who happened to be last year’s champion. Deem had an excellent game and eliminated the previous year’s champion and moved on to face the 3rd seed, where Deem’s day ended. While finishing 4th in New York State is an exceptional accomplishment in itself, he is also the first bowler in school history to qualify for the step-ladder portion of the tournament.
On the same day, three Girls Varsity bowlers participated in the inaugural state tournament. Jenna Biscotti, Emma Dolan and Kerri Callahan bowled 5 straight games against the top 24 bowlers in the state. Kerri qualified to the championship ladder round as the 1 seed. Kerry ended the day in second place, and also won high series for the tournament.
With these huge victories for the Firebirds, the bowling teams have proven to be a strong force at Kellenberg. Congratulations to both the Girls and Boys Varsity Bowling Teams on an incredible season.
