Article by Phoenix writer Delaney Clark ’25:
On November 2nd, 2023, the One Heart, One Mind, Many Cultures Club hosted a presentation about Italian Heritage given by Junior Costanza Faldetta, who is originally from Italy.
In her presentation, Costanza shared the similarities and the differences between being a teenager in America versus in Italy. She explained that across the globe, teenagers have many difficulties, causing many people to travel abroad for better opportunities.
Costanza also made sure that everybody knew what the country was like from the perspective of actually living there, not just what it may be like as a tourist. Although it is impossible to explain all of Italian Heritage in one day, she wanted to emphasize the many years of history and culture that Italians carry with them.
Costanza’s favorite part of the afternoon was seeing how interested everybody was in her story. She said, “I love sharing my thoughts on my country, and I think that it’s important to do so, especially because there’s many people here in America that have Italian origins. I loved everyone’s excitement in hearing a stranger’s story.”
This event was a great opportunity for members of the One Heart, One Mind, Many Cultures Club to learn more about another culture from a first-hand perspective.
Students interested in learning more about other cultures can still join the One Heart, One Mind, Many Cultures Club. The club meets every other Monday from 3:30 to 4:30 PM in the Millenium Room and hosts various events throughout the year. Anyone with questions can contact Mrs. Mulligan or Mr. Cioffi for more details.
